POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Department of Information Technology (DoIT) within the Division of Student Affairs offers a graduate assistant internship (non-teaching) position to develop a new student employee program focused on high- impact practices to foster career readiness in information technology. This program, in collaboration with several colleges will develop a series of co-curricular activities and experiences focused on a general orientation to disciplines within IT as well as soft skills identified by the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) such as verbal communication, teamwork, decision-making, and problem-solving. The intern will develop an assessment initiative for career readiness, offer important contributions in the development and implementation of an assessment model, develop templates and surveys for assessment reporting, and have an opportunity to work with the department staff in developing learning outcomes and assessment strategies. A successful candidate will have experience in human resource development, student learning assessment, and a strong interest in learning more about this area. Experience working for an IT organization is a preferred qualification. Communication and organizational skills are very important. The time commitment is 10-15 hours/week, and will extend from August through May with the potential to extend into the summer months.

HOW SPRITE WORKS

The SPRITE program is designed to provide student workers with a multi-year experience of professional IT competencies tailored to fit the student’s area of interest. Students who participate will receive a co- curricular transcript detailing the various training and experiences they received during their tenure. Students accepted into the program work as paid student workers within the department while learning how a professional IT organization works. Participants will be exposed to multiple areas of professional IT work such as;

  •   Service Desk

  •   Applications Development

  •   Systems Administration

  •   Databases

  •   Project Management

  •   Business Analysis
